“Music is my life” and I’ve been working as a DJ since 1981.

It all started in a club where the DJ had had enough and simply asked me if I’d like to give it a go “here”. The club was the ‘Cleopatra’ in the Bramfeld district of Hamburg. I didn’t think twice about taking that step – I just went for it. Musically, 1981 was dominated by ‘Modern Talking’, the ‘Neue Deutsche Welle’ and disco music from Canada, such as ‘Lime’, or from America, the ‘Flirts’.

I am first and foremost a DJ; secondly, Black music is my passion. Black music – that’s the soul of the 70s, the funk and ‘Black Disco’ of the 80s, the ‘New Jack Swing’ of the 90s, as well as R&B, hip hop, Miami bass, crunk and Dirty South. At the moment, I’m playing Nu Soul, Soulful, Deep, Tech and Progressive House, and New Beats – and, of course, anything that’s fun – hits from the 70s, 80s and 90s right up to today, and naturally the latest chart hits too.

My DJ set-up may seem simple, but it packs a real punch. After all this time, I’ve developed a real feel for the crowd and the vibe of the party. That’s one of the reasons why I’ve been able to work consistently and for so long in such a wide variety of clubs. I played for 10 years at the Hamburg club ‘Third World’ – I was the first DJ at ‘Skyy’ on Spielbudenplatz and brought the house down at ‘Make up’ on Hamburger Straße.

In addition, I spent 5 years on the road for the Berlin radio station “JAM/FM” – where I was given the moniker “The Soul Commissioner” – and toured across the country for 5 years with the German Basketball Federation, OBI and JAM/FM as part of the biggest street basketball tour, the “Biber Beats”. I was active at Hamburg’s “Bäderland” at Holthusenbad as part of the “Summer Lounge” and created a pleasant after-work atmosphere with “Soulful House”.

Although I’ve been DJing for over 40 years, I’m also interested in everything new: musical developments, newcomers and technology. After turntables and CD players, I’ve been DJing with a console for quite some time now. This makes me very flexible – regardless of the equipment available on site. If something isn’t working, I can usually still make it work with the console.

This makes me one of those DJs who is always good for a surprise and who manages to react unconventionally, no matter which direction a party takes, and thus get any venue in the mood to party.

The moniker: The Soul Commissioner
came about through JAM/FM in 1998. At JAM/FM, which was back then still the epicentre of black music in the German media landscape, every DJ had a moniker such as Inspector or Captain, so that’s where ‘Commissioner’ came into play – The Soul Commissioner was born and stuck with me even after my time at JAM/FM.
